The Remedy for How To Stop Snoring is Different For Everybody

There are several different causes of snoring. Finding the best how to stop snoring remedy for you depends on first discovering what is causing your snoring.

More people than you may otherwise guess either suffer from snoring or live with someone who snores. Therefore it is very likely that you have looked or are still looking for a cure for how to stop snoring. Snoring isn’t only annoying but can also be a sign of serious health problems. If you or someone in your family snores, then you need to know how to stop snoring.

The first essential step to knowing  how to stop snoring  is to know what the cause is. Since there are several different causes, you want to make sure you know exactly what the culprit is of your snoring so you implement the correct remedy. Choosing the wrong treatment will only cause the sufferer to lose hope and waste time and money.

Are You Out Of Shape?

Being out of shape can cause snoring. This is because snoring is the result of air passing through a narrow throat opening. For some people, the throat is normally wide, but because they are out of shape or over weight, the muscles are loose causing the throat to close while sleeping. In this case, the answer to how to stop snoring is to exercise and lose weight. Take the stairs instead of the elevator for starters, or don’t always look for the parking space closest to the door.

There are also special throat exercises you can do to strengthen the muscles. If you have troubles motivating yourself to exercise your whole body, you could start with doing these throat exercises. For many, they are the best answer to how to stop snoring.

The Dentist May Be Able To Tell You How To Stop Snoring

That’s right!! Your dentist may be able to create a special oral device for you that can help you to stop snoring. If he or she can’t do it themselves, they may be able to refer you to another dentist who can. Give your family dentist a call to find out.

Narrow Nasal Passages

If narrow nasal passages are the cause of your snoring, then maybe nasal strips are how to stop snoring for you. Of course, this won’t work if you have a narrow throat. If you are unsure what is causing your snoring, visit your doctor. If your snoring is indeed the result of narrow nasal passages, then nasal strips are a safe and inexpensive solution that may work well for you.

Do You Drink Alcohol Or Take Medications Before Sleeping?

Alcohol and some medications cause the muscles in your body to relax more than they otherwise would, including the muscles in your throat. Alcohol or medications could either be causing you to snore or making your existing problem even worse. In this case, not drinking and taking medication before bed is how to stop snoring for you.

The answer to how to stop snoring may be much simpler than you think. However, if the cause of your snoring is a narrow throat or nasal passage, then you need to discuss with your doctor which snoring remedy will be the best for you. If narrow throat and nasal passages is indeed the culprit, then your first line of defense would be to learn some special exercises that strengthen the muscles in the throat thereby stopping your snoring.

Understanding The Finer Points Of Surgery For Snoring

February 2, 2009 on 11:56 am | In Remedy For Snoring | No Comments

Is there a surgery for snoring? This question is sure to invite frowns from people who think snorers are only butt of jokes. But the problem of snoring is not so simple and requires some clear insights to reach the roots of the trouble.

More about Snoring

There are two classes of snoring, mild snoring and excessive snoring. Mild snoring is easily curable by change in sleeping position or by avoiding some substance before going to sleep. But if your excessive snoring has caused calamities in your social life then there is every chance that you are suffering from complex sleep apnea disorder. Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder, which is characterized by faulty breathing, resulting in oxygen deficiency. This is the time to consider surgery for snoring.

Surgery for Snoring

Never neglect snoring. If non-surgical methods like Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), dental devices or anti snoring appliances fail then snoring surgery may be the only resort to cure snoring.

Your doctor will perform a detailed examination of your nose, mouth and pharynx to determine the causes of sleep apnea. The type of snoring surgery to be undertaken depends on the location of excess tissues.

Your surgeon can recommend sleep nasendoscopy before snoring surgery to find out the level of obstruction. The process starts with sedating the patient to a state of sleep then through a narrow flexible endoscope the surgeon examines the upper airway to see where the collapse is occurring.

The Four Main Surgeries To Cure Snoring Are

Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP)

In UPPP the uvula and pharyngeal arches, partially the soft palate and sometimes the tonsils are removed under general anaesthetic. This is the only snoring surgery that increases the problem of the oropharynx. This surgery is helpful for patients in whom palatal obstruction is caused by sidewalls collapsing against each other. This snoring surgery can give rise to some postoperative complications like severe post-operative pain and some prolonged complications like continual palatal dryness, long-term voice changes, nasopharyngeal regurgitation, taste loss and long term voice changes.

Laser-Assisted Uvuloplatoplasty (LAUP)

Laser-assisted uvuloplatoplasty (LAUP) is deemed as a more safe, comfortable and economic alternative to UPPP. The surgery is done under general anaesthetic. In this snoring surgery, the free edge of the soft palate and uvula is vaporized using a laser. This snoring surgery can be repeated unlike UPPP, the number of sessions depend on the patient. Though this process is less complicated than UPPP but there can be postoperative pain after the surgery.

Platal Stiffening Operations (CAPSO)

CASPO or electrical cautery is performed under local anaesthesia. In this snoring surgery, the palate is burned causing fibrosis and subsequent stiffening of the soft palate. The longitudinal strip of mucosa along the soft palate or uvula is also removed. This is a less invasive and less complicated process than both UPPP and LAUP.

Somnoplasty Or Radio- Frequency Ablation

In Somnoplasty, the surplus tissue of the soft palate is reduced by heating the inner tissue to 85 degree centigrade, which scars the tissue beneath the skin. This is a minimalist invasive procedure and takes only about 20 minutes. Though the patient has to undergo a number of treatment sessions but unlike others it is a less painful method. It is useful for turbinate and palate based snoring.

When everything fails then the only option left is surgery for snoring.

Stop Snoring Aids-A Review of the Top Anti Snoring Devices and Their Effectiveness

February 2, 2009 on 11:33 am | In Stop Snoring Devices | No Comments

Snoring can be a real nuisance, but it doesn’t have to be if you find the right snoring solution.  There are many different treatments for snoring on the market today.  What are the best anti snoring devices and how do they work?  In this article we will look at the top stop snoring aids, explain how they work and look at their effectiveness.

how to prevent snoring

Stop Snoring Pillow

These are considered my many to be the top stop snoring devices on the market.  In this category one of the most popular is the Snore-No-More Pillow.  It was actually designed by a doctor to  Reduce snoring and pppromote a more restful sleep.  It has been featured on CBS News.

It is designed to improve breathing by keeping the chin away from the chest, the jaw forward, and the airway open. The Snore-No-More Anti Snoring Pillow supports and positions the head and neck to improve alignment, whether sleeping on the side, back or stomach. It is made of hypoallergenic premium foam so the Anti Snoring Pillow will not harbor mildew.

The Snore-No-More Anti-Snoring Pillow was featured in Woman’s World Magazine, September 2008 as the best pillow to "Put a Stop to Snoring."  Amy Blanchard, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Georgia’s MCG Sleep Disorders Center, keeps her patients’ snoring at bay with this pillow. "It’s contoured to keep your chin at the right angle relative to your chest, so your airways stay open," she says. "Pillows that help alleviate snoring have been on the market only a year or so, and some can cost up to $100, but this pillow does the job at a better price."

Stop Snoring Spray

There are a number of stop snoring sprays on the market.  A product called SNORenz was the original snoring relief spray on the market in 1996 and is still considered by many to be the top solution in this category. The company does have pretty substantial clinical proof on how effective their product has been for millions of users over more than a decade.

SNORenz is a clinically tested, all natural product that relies on a spray delivery system that lubricates the tissues where the snoring occurs, resulting in the reduction of snoring for most users. SNORenz is also alcohol free.  That is important because alcohol is a known contributor to snoring.

Stop Snoring Mouth Guard

Although these devices are said to take some getting used to and can me not too comfortable at first-they do work for many sufferers of snoring.

The Snore Guard is considered by many to be the most effective in this category.    According to published studies, it is said to be 95% effective in the treatment of snoring.

Here is the idea behind it and how it works:  When you are sitting or standing upright your air passage is fully open.  But when you recline the muscles around the lower jaw, soft palate, tonsils and uvula relax.  The tongue falls back and can often obstruct the air way.  As you breathe the vibrations going through this restricted air way are the noise we hear as snoring.  This mouth guard keeps the jaw in the same position as it is when you are not reclined and the air way is kept more open.

Stop Snoring Chin Strap

This product probably has more mixed reviews that any of the other anti-snoring devices on the market.  Upon doing more research you will find the reviews on its effectiveness are quite mixed.  But there are some snoring sufferers that are very happy with this type of a product.

The way the stop snoring chin strap works is quite simple-it helps keep the mouth shut during sleeping. Recognizing that snoring is generally caused by restricted air passing through the back of the throat, if the mouth is closed then the breathing takes place sole through the nose.  It is definitely the most inexpensive of all the other stop snoring aides on the market-but its effectiveness is mixed.
